OKRs (objectives and key results) are an especially useful goal-setting framework for all kinds of businesses and organizations. OKRs enable teams to simultaneously focus on what needs doing here and now, while staying aligned with objectives and broader company strategy.
Any team can apply OKRs by choosing 3-5 key objectives that support the business strategy, and for each, 3-5 key results to measure the success of the objectives. OKRs sharpen up activities and ways to achieve the organization’s strategy. By classifying and executing specific plans and activities on a quarterly basis, key results are more readily obtained, and objectives for that quarter suddenly come within reach.
OKRs help organizations to realize more results in shorter periods of time:
- An organization’s mission, vision and strategy are progressed by OKRs – the operational details
- Set 3-5 concrete inspiring objectives each quarter that support your company mission, vision and strategy
- Require teams to focus on 3-5 key results per objective per quarter that measure how each objective will be achieved
- Key results should be measurable and aligned to the objectives
- Devise specific plans and activities which ensure that key results are achieved
- Encourage staff to develop plans and activities together and come up with ideas for how to display their key results.
